A Musical Meld of Stills

A Musical Meld of Stills

Since moving imaging has become so easy and inexpensive to produce and post, many photographers wonder if there is any room for still photography to exist and thrive as an art form.  Indeed, one of the purposes of this forum is to share ideas for creating art, and so we point you to the following video.

Featuring the photographic art of Wyman Meinzer and the original music of Doug Smith, the video entitled “West Texas” is a stand alone Work of Art.  Many photgraphic slide presentations show a selection of photographs, set a time of separation, add generic music, and that’s it for production.  In this compilation work, the colors of the music change with and add to the stellar photography in the telling of the story.  From wide open spaces to a cowboy theme to a summer storm and flashes of lightening, the music enhances the photography.  Here the photography is not presented in spaces of a set time,  but actually changes duration depending upon the subject of each photograph coupled with the music.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Wyman Meinzer – Official Photographer for the State of Texas

Wyman Meinzer is the only official State Photographer of Texas. He was raised on League Ranch, a 27,000-acre ranch in the rolling plains of Texas. Since then, he has traveled across the state many times to capture the first and last rays of sunlight as they kiss the Texas landscapes.  He started his career as a professional predator hunter. He transitioned into a research associate for the university and now teaches a senior-level course in Special Problems Photography at Texas Tech University in addition to his ongoing book projects and freelance magazine assignments.

Doug Smith – West Texas’s premier pianist/composer

From Petersburg, Texas, Doug plays by ear.  Though he cannot read music, he has long track record of original recordings.  A pickup accident left Doug paralyzed, but fortunately he has learned to play again.  Doug Smith is currently working on yet another recording project of original music as well as a PBS concert video, spot-lighting his eclectic approach to piano performance.  While he continues to perform a plethora of original music, his piano recordings, musical contributions, and concert performances have made him one of the most inspirational contemporary instrumental artist on the Southwestern Plains.  If you haven’t heard Doug Smith play the piano, you haven’t heard the piano!
