Carl Zeiss Lenses

Carl Zeiss Lenses

From http://www.productionhub.com we bring you an interview from the 2013 Cine Gear Los Angeles Expo with August Bradley, a photographer turned cinematographer who has been using Carl Zeiss lenses since he began in the industry. Camera lenses from Carl Zeiss are used by millions of photographers all over the world and their cinematography lenses have already received three Technical Academy Awards. In this interview August explains why he chooses Carl Zeiss Lenses over and over again.

I also have used Carl Zeiss lenses for almost as long as I can remember, first for still photography and today for a mix of both stills and video.  As August says, one of the primary things I like about the line and always have is their consistent look across focal lengths.  Sharpness, fall off, drawing signature, and color are very similar from wide angle choices to telephoto, making final grading so much easier.

While a set of new Carl Zeiss Cinema Primes is not cheap, rental rates are often fairly reasonable considering the ultimate quality your selection brings with it.  And you can always choose from a wide array of different lenses available on the used market.  Almost anything can be adapted today to mount on most of the current generation of digital bodies for both still and video.  Often these used lenses can be purchased for a very reasonable price, and still represent some of the best overall lenses available in the used marketplace for image quality.
