Ira Block’s Bhutan

Ira Block’s Bhutan

Bhutan Panasonic GH3 October 2012 from Ira Block on Vimeo.

My friend Ira Block is an internationally renowned photojournalist, teacher and workshop leader who has to date produced more than 30 major stories for the National Geographic magazine and its affiliates, N.G. Traveler and Adventure. Ira tells the backstory of this video in his seminars that he presents in dealer locations around the country. I had the pleasure of joining Ira for the first of these, held at Samy’s Camera in Los Angeles.

Ira shot this video footage by himself (no sound crew or assistant) using his Panasonic GH3 & various Panasonic lenses.  He shot it in his spare time while leading a National Geographic photo tour in Bhutan.  It is Ira’s ‘first’ video production. I guarantee it will not be his last.  The sound is fantastic, mostly on camera mic, with some shots using the Panasonic boom microphone.  His video clips show the years of skill Ira has developed shooting stills for National Geographic.  They are dialed right in; great angles.

Being a very smart professional photographer, Ira hired a good video editor for the post production, and acquired talent fitting the mood Ira wanted to set for the voice over.   It is a really well done piece and I am happy to see it is now available to share.  It’s not the same thing as hearing Ira himself tell the story, but it’s probably the next best thing.  Many thanks to Ira for granting my special request to share his work here on TheCameraForum.Com.

FYI, Ira’s been booked at B&H Event Space.   If your plans include being in the NYC area February 7, 2013, you should certainly plan to attend.  I know you’ll enjoy Ira’s live presentation as much as I did!
