The Mirrorless Party Animation

The Mirrorless Party Animation

First up, here are Canon’s marketing claims for their first mirrorless camera system, the EOS-M:

“Inspired by Canon’s EOS technology, the EOS M digital compact system camera allows limitless creativity. Capture full HD video with smooth, quiet continuous autofocus made possible by Movie Servo AF and STM lenses, advanced CMOS sensor technology, and the processing power of DIGIC 5. Take spectacular still shots using the 18.0-megapixel CMOS sensor with the included wide-angle 22mm f/2 lens, plus Canon’s extensive family of interchangeable lenses (optional adapter required for EF and EF-S lenses). The touch-screen monitor, Scene Intelligent Auto, and a host of other features make the Canon EOS M the perfect advanced, yet simple to operate, creative tool.” – Source:Canon USA

Certainly sounds impressive, doesn’t it? But in reality, it’s what they don’t say that speaks the loudest in this $800 retail priced ho-hum offering.  The words too little, too late, and too dull come to my mind.  We could have expected more from Canon at that premium price point in my opinion.

Here is “The Mirrorless Party” – a short created by Jordan Drake and Chris Niccolls from  The Camera Store in Calgary, Alberta as an animated element for their own review on the Canon EOS M.  Needless to say, they didn’t care much for the M either so they decided to give it the most royal of roastings – making it a public laughing stock.

I am posting this animation as it shows how powerful a creative idea in the hands of producers even on a low budget can be.  I found the content a hilarious way to poke shame on a company that should know better, and a great use of excellent stop motion photography in telling the story.
