There is no question that the original DJI Phantom was a huge hit, not just with people wanting to fly them for a hobby, but also for serious videographers. However, the Phantom is limited in many ways that restrict what a new age filmmaker can actually do with it. DJI have stepped up to the plate with a more professional level package in the new DJI Inspire 1.
Designed to be powerful while still as lightweight as possible, flexible while always providing the stability you absolutely must have, the DJI Inspire 1 is DJI’s most advanced drone to date. All of the latest aerial technology along with a there way gimbal equipped 4k video camera are packed into one simple, ready-to-fly system that will have you in the air filming in relatively no time at all. The DJI Inspire 1 is claimed to be simple to operate by almost anyone with basic hand – eye coordination skills.
Designed with strong carbon fiber arms to provide quick maneuvering ability in the air – the arms transform, moving out of the camera’s way with the press of a button. You have the freedom to capture shots independent of the direction you are flying the DJI Inspire 1 while enjoying a full 360⁰ unobstructed view. Inspire 1’s gimbal and camera system can be removed from the aircraft for safe transport and future upgrades.
A real-time feed from the DJI Inspire 1’s camera can be displayed on the mobile controller device for a perfect view of what the camera sees so you can select, lineup, and trigger your capture of stills and video. The display resolution is 720p HD, so good and sharp with plenty of detail. With the use of a second controller more options are available. With two operators controlling the same DJI Inspire 1, one person acts as pilot and sets the flight path while the other aims the camera by controlling the gimbal position and movements. This is made possible by an all new and improved version of DJI’s Lightbridge technology which can transmit video from up to 2km away! Each user has a duplicate screen of their own to see exactly what is being shot in real-time.
Flying camera drones indoors has always been a tricky proposition, as there is no GPS signal available for location control and stability. GPS systems are dependent upon receiving multiple satellite signals at the same time to triangulate the actual position. These weak satellite signals can not penetrate buildings. Hence, indoor flight is a true test of skill for all levels of pilots.
To help with this challenge, DJI’s has equipped the DJI Inspire 1 with their new Optical Flow technology, which uses a specially designed positioning camera and of all things, sonic waves to bring ease and simplicity to indoor flight. This technology allows the DJI Inspire 1 to hold its position, stop when the controls are released, and respond to commands even when the GPS signal is absent or not available.
For those who have never flown before, taking off and landing the DJI Inspire 1 is easy and safe despite a total lack of flying experience. Everything is automated, and internally controlled. It takes just one tap to make the DJI Inspire 1 takeoff and raise its rotors up out of the way for filming. A second quick tap signals landing mode and the DJI Inspire 1 automatically lands itself.
When GPS is available, the Home Point (the location you are standing) automatically refreshes, so the DJI Inspire 1 always knows where home base is located even if you keep moving around and about. When you tell the DJI Inspire 1 to come back, and in all cases of an emergency, the DJI Inspire 1 knows exactly where to go and lands itself safely. What could be easier?
