LG G2: Steady Feathers
My two year contract with AT&T expires next month, so I have been looking around at options. My present phone is an Apple iPhone 4s, and while it is a decent phone, the latest improvements to the new iPhone 5s camera make my mouth water, albeit at quite a high cost. For better or worse, the latest iPhone 5s is looking to be in rather short supply having reached a new record in iPhone introductory sales. Two years ago when I picked up my 4s, the Android phones were just really starting to come into their own, but were not up to the camera quality the 4s gave. With the Apple phone still premium priced and in short supply, I feel it is time to explore my other options as well before making a final decision.
It is amazing what a difference two years can make. Two years in the world of high technology is a product lifetime. Two years has been enough time for Google to further refine their Android operating system to a point where the current release of Android 4.2.2 (Jelly Bean) is not only stable, but is delivering features in Smartphones such as the Samsung Galazy and the new LG G2 that not only rival the first tier Apple offerings, but exceed them in several performance respects. Video quality from the onboard camera being the main one of interest to me. The extensive camera upgrades brought to the iPhone 5s appear to me to be Apple attempting to meet the competition from the latest Android capabilities.
In the case of the LG G2, there is a lot for me to like on paper. Crisp, detailed photos and stunning 1080p videos with the amazing 13 MP camera. Breakthrough optical image stabilization (OIS) technology to steady my focus, so when I can’t stay perfectly still I still stand a chance of getting usable shots, even in low light. This is a desirable attribute that has proven beyond the capability of my iPhone 4s which does a decent job in great light, but when the sun goes down the gremlins craw out of the woodwork. Hence, my search for something two years newer in technology.
Powered by a Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 800 Processor with 2.26 Ghz Quad-Core CPUs, the LG G2 renders smooth graphics with no lag time. Gaming and browsing the web at 4G LTE speeds, watching movies, or mutitasking across apps, should provide a seamless experience. The T-Mobile plan also has an unlimited data option that allows the LG G2 to function as a WiFi Hotspot at up to 2.5 MB speed. I look forward to holding one in my hand shortly. The new LG G2 is $600 MSRP, currently distributed by and available for order in the United States from:
AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile. Sprint should be receiving stock shortly.
