GH4, X-T1, A6000, E-M1: Autofocus Shootout!
Everybody loves a good autofocus shootout. But this autofocus shootout not to be missed! Once again, The Camera Store’s Chris Niccolls steps in front of Jordan Drake’s Sony FS700 to bring you the latest information and his opinion about the autofocus speed and accuracy in the current crop of leading mirrorless cameras. To balance things out a bit, he also shoots a Nikon D4S, widely known as one of the very best autofocus cameras made for action sports. Surprisingly, this autofocus shootout shows the mirrorless cameras have improved so much over just the past eighteen months, they now become serious challengers to the far more expensive and far larger venerable Nikon D4S.

“It seems like every 13 minutes, another mirrorless camera is announced that promises the ‘World’s Fastest Autofocus’. We decided to cut through all the hype and pit the fastest mirrorless cameras against each other, and we threw in a Nikon D4S, just to make it interesting. To really put these cameras through a stress test we went to Wildrose Motocross Park with a Fuji X-T1, Sony A6000, Olympus OMD E-M1 and Panasonic GH4!

My only critique? I would have chosen something like a Nikon D610 instead of the D4S to give a more fair dollar for dollar comparison. A Nikon D610 body is around $1,800, while the venerable D4S is a whopping $6,500. Hardly a level playing field. That said, many thanks as always to the great staff at TheCameraStore.TV for doing these videos. Their stuff always rocks, and their customers always sing their praises. It is good to support your local dealer. You never know when you going to need that in person, face to face local hand holding and support. Something impossible to get from online vendors. It may work fine for telephones & tablets, but cameras are a whole lot more complicated to operate. I always find it much easier to remember something someone has shown me. I find it much harder to remember when it is just something I read or hear over the phone.
