The gentleman who will be making the final decision on what comes next from Sony in the Alpha series of interchangeable lens cameras is Sony Product Manager for Interchangeable Lens Cameras, Mr. Kenta Honjo. Mr. Honjo was interviewed for this Creative Live video segment published on Oct 27, 2014 on YouTube.Com. For those who are unfamiliar with what a product manager does, according to Wikipedia a product manager investigates, selects, and drives the development of products for an organization, performing the activities of product management.

A product manager considers numerous factors such as intended demographic of the particular market, the products offered by the competition, and how well the product fits with the company’s business model. Generally, a product manager manages one or more tangible products. In the case of Mr. Honjo, he has several including the A7, A7R, A7S, A6000 mirrorless bodies, the entire Alpha line of interchangeable lens cameras, all of the lenses both A mount and the newer E and FE mounts, and others you nor I know anything more about today as they have yet to be announced. It is quite a lineup of products, basically the entire breadth of the Sony consumer and professional MILC, DSLR, and compact line for those with an interchangeable lens.
Managing all of those products, deciding what new technological features should be researched, and supervising the research into what consumer requests can be incorporated in the next product line refresh are Mr. Honjo’s main priorities. He decides what software is chosen, what hardware features are included with which models, what accessories will be available, and he decides the timing for release. Marketing, Product Development, and Software Development all fall under his guidance, if not as direct reports. Bottom line, as far as Interchangeable Lens Cameras products go, Mr. Kenta Honjo is the man in charge.
