Home to unique pieces of art and architecture such as work by Alan Sainte, James Boudrot and their “Jake and Elwood Blues Brothers” movable bars; the Los Angeles venue is covered in tin from a gin mill that was reportedly only 500 feet away from the Delta crossroads — the mystical field where Robert Johnson created his famous partnership with the Devil for his soul. Notable acts that have played at the House

I had the pleasure of joining Ira for the first of these, held at Samy’s Camera in Los Angeles. Read moreBack in August, thanks to a kind loan from Will Crockett over at DiscoverMirrorless.Com, I got to try the Fuji XPro-1 for a couple of days. That story is here:https://thecameraforum.com/xpro-1/ I liked it very much. Though I didn’t have time to shoot any low light, or “available darkness” subjects with it as I would have liked, I did have time to do some daylight work that looked pretty fabulous. The dynamic range on the XPro is fantastic, and while some do not enjoy it’s retro form factor, I do. I come from many years of shooting Leica rangefinders, first

Both represent the pinnacle of the arts in my mind, so when they are artfully combined as they are in this H. Paul Moon production, it really gets my juices going. A fantastic effort from a very promising filmmaker. For his family and friends in Christmas 2011, Moon shot all the footage 5-10 December 2011 in Paris. The music is by Francis Poulenc: Concerto for Two Pianos

While certainly not for everyone, these horrible little cameras produce absolutely stunning landscape photographs. I particularly like Nick Devlin’s comment that shooting a DP Merrill is about the same as using a 4×5 camera. Both seem to have a lot of limitations and workflow challenges, and both produce stunning results. Please don’t miss Uwe Steinmueller’s excellent review of the Merrill at http://www.outbackphoto.net/news/2012/10/18/sigma-dp2-merrill-field-report.html PLEASE RATE THIS STORY! [ratings]
Read moreI always enjoy watching the reviews TheCameraStore produces. I wish I could do reviews this well myself. They cleverly sum up my own first impressions of my GH3. I too admit to being a bit disappointed in the GH3 in the high ISO stills department, but at least some of this is my unfamiliarity with the camera. As with all complex electronic systems, it does take some time to let everything sink in. The GH3 is a complex and capable beast at it’s best. One this photographer has yet to learn to tame… PLEASE RATE THIS STORY! [ratings]

Some of these are well worth having while to my mind some of them are little more than fluff. One of the major features on my new Panasonic Lumix GH3 that I appreciate is the external microphone jack. For hybrid photography, your sound quality is every bit as important as your video and stills. Without a great sound track, all your hard work capturing video and stills doesn’t shine like it should – and could!

Able to leap tall buildings in a single bound and still pull off ten frames a second without breaking a sweat. Three pound bodies coupled to two pound lenses add up to five pounds of weight my arthritic right arm can no longer sling around with abandon. Will Crockett and we other

I know I have a drawer full of them, and I bet you do too. Once in a great while, one of them turns out to be such a valuable photography tool that you simply can’t do without it. Gary Fong’s tupperware container on top of my big old Metz DSLR flash immediately springs to mind. It’s saved my bacon more than once
Read moreBy Lawrence Beck In the mid-80’s, while on a flight to New York, I met a San Francisco photographer named Jimo Perini. What caught my eye was two bricks of film sticking out of his tote bag: Tri X and Ektachrome 160. I asked him where he was headed, and he said, “Europe.” The conversation moved to film and his camera; he had one body and one lens. The Tri-X would be exposed at 200 as well as the Ektachrome, unless he needed the speed. If so, he’d expose the Tri X at 400 or 800 and
